St. Mary of the Lake Middle School is committed to fostering spiritual goals and values that provide moral guidance and allow each child to grow in faith through word, worship and service.

We believe that Catholic education is based on an obligation to teach as Jesus did and to recognize that every child is a beloved child of God. We acknowledge that parents are the central source of education for their children. St. Mary of the Lake School seeks to share with parents the responsibility for developing strong Christian principles within each child.

Our philosophy of instruction is based on the Religion Standards for Catholic Education as set forth by the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

  • Knowledge of the Faith: helping children to know, understand and integrate Catholic beliefs.

  • Liturgical Education: helping children to know how the church worships through full, active, and conscious participation in liturgy.

  • Moral Formation: helping children to recognize, understand, and express that each person is called as a disciple of Jesus to love, forgive, and serve others.

  • Teaching to Pray: helping children to learn to pray the way Jesus did—with adoration, praise, thanksgiving, confidence, and awe.

  • Education for Community Life: children experience community life as an apprenticeship of faith which cultivates values, relationships, and ecumenical dialogue.

  • Missionary Initiation: Assist children to become disciples of Christ, present in society, and able to witness their faith.
