Resource Center
Preschool students go to the Resource Center for 30 minutes once a week for book exchange and instruction in library and literature skills. Students in grades K-5 go to the Resource Center for 30 minutes once a week for book exchange and instruction in information and literature skills. Preschoolers and kindergartners check out one book. In grades 1-8 students may check out three books.
Students in grades 6-8 meet for 50 minutes once a week in the Resource Center for study hall, which also includes opportunities for book exchange and silent reading.
Any student who loses or damages a book during the year needs to bring a written note, signed by his or her parent, to the media specialist stating that the book is either lost or damaged. The school will bill the child's family for the cost and processing fee of replacing the book. Students who lose or damage books or school materials are responsible for replacement costs. Middle School students will not receive their grades if there is any outstanding bill concerning library books.
St. Mary's takes great pride in the selection of Resource Center materials. The media specialist uses set critieria and tools for the selection and evaluation of materials. Questions or concerns about materials should be addressed to the media specialist.
