Eucharist
The heart of Catholic worship is the Eucharist: it is the source of grace, and the summit of the Church's action - offering bread and wine, symbols of ourselves, to be transformed into the living Body and Blood of Christ. When Eucharist is received, the person is further transformed into the hands and feet of Christ in the world. An awesome mystery and privilege!
At St. Mary’s preparation for the sacrament of the Eucharist (First Communion) is completed jointly with children and their parents. Why the family involvement in Eucharist preparation? The family is the first and most important teacher in the formation of a child not only in the natural experience, but more importantly in the spiritual experience.
Preparation sessions for First Eucharist begin in the spring each year. Families will select a mass over the weekends that First Eucharist is celebrated.
Participation in First Eucharist Preparation Requires -
• At least one full year of faith formation prior to and including the year of preparation in either a Catholic school or Faith Formation program
• A copy of the certificate of baptism is required if the child was not baptized at St. Mary's
• A $30 program fee and a $5 Family Guidebook deposit, refundable when returned
